PF Modular Achieves ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Certification

We are proud to announce that PF Modular has been awarded both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification — two of the most recognised quality and environmental management standards in the world. These accreditations reflect the standards we hold ourselves to every day and give our clients, partners and the schools we work with even greater confidence in the work we deliver.

What the certifications mean

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). Achieving certification means that every part of our business — from initial design consultations and off-site manufacturing through to site installation and aftercare — operates within a formally documented, independently audited quality framework. In practice, this gives our clients the assurance that what we promise at the outset is what gets delivered at handover.

ISO 14001 is the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Certification confirms that PF Modular has implemented a structured, organisation-wide approach to understanding, measuring and continuously reducing our environmental impact. From responsible material sourcing and waste reduction in our factory through to the energy-efficient design of every building we produce, environmental responsibility is now embedded into our processes at every level.

Why it matters for schools

Schools and academy trusts face growing scrutiny over the suppliers and contractors they engage — and rightly so. Public bodies are increasingly expected to work with partners who can demonstrate robust quality controls, sound environmental practices and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.

By holding ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, PF Modular gives procurement teams and bursars the documented evidence they need to make confident, defensible decisions. Both standards are globally recognised and independently audited, which means our certification carries real weight in tender processes and framework agreements.

For schools with their own sustainability commitments — whether driven by trust policy, local authority net zero targets or their own values — ISO 14001 also means you are working with a supplier who takes those goals as seriously as you do.

Building on existing commitments

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 do not stand alone. They sit alongside a number of existing accreditations and memberships that underpin PF Modular’s approach to quality and responsible practice, including our membership of the MPBA (Modular and Portable Building Association), our Gold membership of Constructionline, membership of the LABC Partner Authority Scheme, and our registration with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Our modular classrooms are already designed and built to comply with DfE Building Bulletins BB93, BB101 and BB103 — covering acoustics, ventilation and floor area guidelines, respectively — as well as the full suite of UK Building Regulations. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 add an additional, independently verified layer of rigour to the processes behind that compliance.

On the environmental side, ISO 14001 formalises and builds upon work that has always been central to the modular construction model. Off-site manufacturing inherently produces less waste than traditional construction, involves shorter on-site programmes and reduces unnecessary plant machinery running time. Our buildings are already specified with energy-efficient heating and ventilation, high-performance insulation, and the option to incorporate technologies such as air source heat pumps, solar PV and LED lighting with occupancy sensors. ISO 14001 ensures that this approach is systematic, measurable and continuously improving.

What this means going forward

Both ISO standards require ongoing surveillance and regular re-certification audits, which means our commitment to quality and environmental management is not a one-time exercise. We are required to demonstrate continuous improvement — not simply to maintain a standard, but to actively raise it over time.
